The Sogetsu School of Ikebana
Sogetsu Ryu
The GiYu Dojo is offering ongoing classes of Ikebana (Flower Arrangement). Ikebana literally means "flowers kept alive”. In the 15th century the art of flower arranging was developed as a formal art. Ikebana is a complex incorporation of space, material, environment, and personal expression. The art of Ikebana utilizes these 4 resources to create a flower arrangement.
Several schools of Ikebana exist. Each differ in style, plants, and vessels used. The most popular schools are Sogetsu, Ikenobo and Ohara. The GiYu Dojo is honored to share the instruction of Tomiko Shumaier, the accredited Sensei in the prestigious Sogetsu school (Ryu). No experience is necessary to participate in the beauty of Ikebana. Everyone is welcome to attend. Ikebana is an amazing creativity exercise for your mind, and it is a great form of relaxation and mediation. This is a perfect hobby for senior citizens, homemakers, gardeners, and artists alike.
“I teach Ikebana flower arrangement to students who want to obtain teaching certificates and to those who just want to enjoy flower arranging.” says Tomiko Sensei.
